Local vs Foreign Products

Reading the Daily Dispatch this morning, I got rather annoyed by an article about a certain large retail chain (Shoprite/Checkers) Selling imported milk from Argentina for up to a Rand less than locally produced products. Now I not sure about you, but for me a rand is not much and I would rather buy locally produced products when I can.

The article goes further to say that the Parmalat, Clover, etc are forcefully reducing the price of what they pay to the farmers for milk, which I can understand since they obviously trying to compete with Shoprites foreign imported milk. But with the drought that farmers are experiencing in the area, the cost of keeping the cows has increased obviously with them having to buy feed and ship in water in certain areas.

Is this fair by the large dairy companies to lower what they willing to buy milk for? and will they pass this saving on to the consumer?? I am sick and tired of large corporations trying to protect their bottom line to the detriment of us the consumer. So this is my catch 22 do we boycott the large local dairy companies in solidarity to the farmers, or buy foreign imports.

Personally I not going to driver to local Checkers for a litre milk, when the a corner shop around the corner!! So the Slumster says buy local and be Proudly South African and I vow never to step foot in a Shoprite/Checkers until they stop importing milk . . .

Brunch at Lavender Blue

The slumster and a girlfriend headed to Lavender Blue for a brunch to line the stomach before heading off to watch Bafana Bafana. This has got to be the best Breakfast/Lunch venue in town!! Personally I dont mind the self service, just choose a table close to the kitchen.
Great outdoor area for the kids to play (Although keep an eye out incase one of them takes a wipe out into the dam.)
I had the Deluxe Breakfast and my friend who I shall call Miss Devine had a Bacon & Brie Sandwich. Which as always was superb.
I would suggest that they improve their wine selection, Miss Devine ordered a glass semi sweet and as she commented she wouldn't even cook with it, but with a can of lemonade it was soon forgotten.
I bought a pot plant from Michelle's Nursery and fresh peat for my worm farm (yes I bought one for Christmas and with the worm wee those little critters produce, my indoor plants and my gran's roses have never looked better!!!!)
IF YOU BELIEVE THERE A MUST EAT BREAKFAST OR BRUNCH PLACE IN TOWN LET ME KNOW OR SEND IN YOUR OWN REVIEW. Look forward to hearing from you all. and Miss Devine says luvvies

Springboks vs Italy 26June

After been starved of World Cup Soccer matches in this town (and the local government's inability to attract a team to use our lovely city as a base camp) we finally get a world class sports event. Although it might only be Italy, as part of the 6 Nations Rugby, lets hope we get to watch a decent running game of rugby

I got my tickets do you have yours????

YOUR HOME EXPO 16 - 20JUNE

The annual home Expo is back, BKB Building, Fitzpatrick Road

Apparently the place to go to get home decorating and improvement ideas. At R35 entrance for adults lets hope we get our moneys worth.

The slumster will be there and will advise if its worth you slumnites to attend

Tonight is the last night to catch Marc Lottering at the Guild in his Not in 3D show, highly recommended and definately not to be missed. show starts at 7pm and tickets are R80, available at the Guild booking office.
